Re: Your Distrust in the Gospels

Dear Doubting Thomas, You said you don’t know if you can trust the books of the New Testament. You said, “After all, there are lots of gospels that were never chosen for the Bible.” Well, there are actually good reasons why those gospels were never chosen. The books of the New Testament were chosen based on specific criteria such as: 1) Was the book written by an apostle or under the authority of an apostle? 2) Was the book consistent with the Old Testament and teaching of the apostles? 3) Was the book widely used by the early church? Those are just some of the tough criteria the New Testament books had to pass. Throughout history, thousands of Christians died to preserve these books. The gospels in the Bible contain the real truth about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. You should check them out! Sincerely, Your Friend in Christ

Re: Your Doubt in the Bible

Dear Doubting Thomas, I know you think the modern Bible is not reliable. You asked, “Who can possibly know what the original text said?” Well, Bible scholars actually do know what the original text said because there are two full copies of the New Testament that date within 300 years of the original composition (and thousands more pieces from before that time). Some Old Testament manuscripts date back to 250 BC. One of the most popular Bible versions (NIV) was translated by more than 100 scholars from the best Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. Aside from that, our God is loving and active. Don’t you think he would oversee the translation of the Bible? Sincerely, Your Friend in Christ

P.S. Think about Mark 13:31: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
