Re: Contradictions

Dear Doubting Thomas, You said you cannot trust the Bible because it is full of contradictions. My question for you is this: Have you personally or with the help of another sought out solutions to the contradictions? Many seeming contradictions describe similar but separate events or have other explanations. If you are just looking for an excuse to disbelieve the Bible, then you will not believe the best explanations provided by Biblical scholars or even your own common sense interpretation. However if you are willing to accept that the Bible contains some ambiguous truths, then you will soon realize the Holy Bible is more than a book. It contains real answers about God’s nature and plan for mankind.  Sincerely, Your Friend in Christ

Re: Your Shame

Dear Doubting Thomas, You said you want to be a Christian, but you do not think you deserve God. You said you are so ashamed and regretful of your past. The truth is, my friend, that none of us deserve God or his salvation. We can never make up for the past. Yet, your sins have already been paid by Jesus when he died on the cross. If you accept him, your sins are completely washed away. You will be clean in the sight of God. Not only that, but he will fill you with his Holy Spirit so that you will have a guide to steer you away from sinful behavior in the future. Even if you mess up and sin more, those sins will also be washed away. Since your soul will be completely free of sin, you will be acceptable to God and reconciled as his child. He will welcome you into eternal life in his kingdom. All of this is completely free. None of us deserve it or earn our salvation. We simply accept God’s grace. Sincerely, Your Friend in Christ

P.S. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God….” (Ephesians 2:8)

Re: Your Unanswered Prayers

Dear Doubting Thomas,You said you want to be a Christian, but your prayers go unanswered. I have a question for you. Do all of your prayers really go unanswered? What about the really desperate ones? Like when your life was in danger? Many people shrug off answered prayers as a coincidence. Deciding whether or not be a Christian holds eternal consequences so it is necessary to be absolutely certain your prayers really do go unanswered. Try this: 1) Buy a journal. 2) Write a simple, unselfish, realistic prayer that you would like to be answered. 3) Leave some space to write at the bottom whether it was answered, unanswered, or answered in a surprising way.  4) If you still have doubt, add another prayer. You can keep adding prayer requests until you are content with your conclusion. It may take a little more effort than silently wishing, but this method will give you an objective, rational basis for your mindset. God really does hear your prayers, and he is eager to reveal his nature to someone who truly wants to know. Sincerely, Your Friend in Christ

P.S. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1John 5:14).

Re: Your Love for Sin

Dear Doubting Thomas, You said you want to become a Christian, but you love sin. You said you think hell would be more fun than heaven. Well, my friend, I do not think you mean what you say when you say. Sin includes so much more than drunken parties and reckless behavior. It includes human trafficking, murder of innocent children, rape, abuse, and so much more. Considering this, let me ask you again: Do you really love sin? I do not think you really love sin; you like the way those sins work together with your body chemistry to feel better. In heaven, humans do not have that same need to feel better because they are already enraptured all of the time since they live in the presence of God. God is love, and Christians will feel the miraculous power of his limitless love every day without the need to feel better. Do not let your soul perish in hell. Claim your opportunity to accept forgiveness for your sins so that you can live forever with our Maker. Sincerely, Your Friend in Christ

P.S. This is what the Bible tells us will happen in the future: “The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father….” (Matthew 13:41-43)

Re: Abuse

Dear Doubting Thomas, You said you want to want to become a Christian, but you cannot understand how a loving God would have allowed you to be abused. You said you are both ashamed and angry about the past. The abuse you endured is not your fault. You do not have to go on feeling ashamed. You cannot hide your feelings from God so go ahead and tell him how you feel in prayer. Reach out and ask for help from a counselor. One day, you will be able to feel joy and hope once more. Mankind has chosen to rebel against God, and that is why we suffer the consequences of sin. The suffering is not isolated to you. Millions of people suffer from physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect. Other children may not suffer abuse, but they live without clean water, a reliable source of food, or proper shelter. Yet others may live a normal life until they try to conceive and are unable to have children. Then they become devastated. One hundred percent of people in this life face some kind of suffering. God does not want us to live in suffering. He desires to love us, protect us, and wipe away every tear for eternity in heaven. If you want this, it is time to turn to him and ask him to save you. Sincerely, Your Friend in Christ

P.S. This is what the Bible tells us about our future with God in heaven: “There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” (Revelation 21:4-5).
