Dear Doubting Thomas, You said you want to be a Christian but cannot accept their view on homosexuality. You think it is bigoted. Many Christians contend that any sexual relations outside of a marriage between one woman and one man are sinful. This includes premarital sex, homosexual sex, polygamy, bestiality, and any other form of sex. Multitudes of Christians have engaged in one or more forms of sinful sex in the past. Christians include practicing homosexuals, adulterers, and unmarried adults in sexual relationships who may or may not consider their actions sinful. The Bible states the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross pays for all sins so anyone who has faith in him will be forgiven their sins. You do not have to agree with this viewpoint to be a Christian. You only have to trust that God’s son made payment for whatever sins you have committed (because we have all sinned). Sincerely, Your Friend in Christ
P.S. Most Christians believe the act of sex is a sin and not the attraction (or temptation) to sin. However when the person gives himself over to the temptation, it progresses to the sin of lust.
P.S.S. The Christian belief that sex outside of marriage is sinful has been based on these verses:
- 1) According to Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure….”
- 2) “…men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.” (Romans 1:27)
- 3) “…each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. (1 Corinthians 7:2)
- 4) “And you shall not lie with any animal and so make yourself unclean with it, neither shall any woman give herself to an animal to lie with it: it is perversion.” (Leviticus 18:23)
